Etchings, 108x80 cm and 108x40 cm, 2018

The house was a recurring figure in my drawings and dreams and I wanted to give this house its space that it clearly seemed to need.

Whether on a copper plate or a 16 mm film there is always this act of transferring, transforming, mark making or scratching on to a surface. Resurfacing whatever was lost, forgotten or never there in the first place. By leaving space in the image I wanted to demonstrate a feeling of a nothingness that is something and surrender to contemplation and to a thinking that feels. I wanted to draw the viewer close to let the eyes wander over the structure of the paper, the architecture of the embossment from the plate that’s been removed and the fine lines of the etching that lands almost like long hairs on top of the paper.
